About Us

Inaugurated in September 1964, on land that was then vested by the Geraldton Town Council with the Wonthella Progress Association, the early development of the bowling club was very much assisted by this Association, which was acknowledged as the "parent body".

1965 saw the start of real work for the foundation members - a bore was put down and equipped, water piping laid, fencing erected, together with the formation, levelling and planting of two couch greens. The clubs minute book records a monumental effort from a small band of dedicated members over the next 2 years, endeavouring to consolidate the initial work and preparing plans, negotiating finance and providing guarantees to build the first clubhouse.

Affiliation with the Royal Western Australian Bowling Association was gained in September 1968 together with entry to the National Bowling League Mens Pennant Competition for the 68/69 season.

October 1969 saw the opening of the original clubhouse, which was then the culmination of 5 years persistent enthusiasm by the founding members.

Early progress was continued during the 70's with additional greens and modernisation of the clubhouse facilities, completed in May 1977.

Further importance was given to the club when in February 1978 we were given the opportunity of hosting the Country Interzone Round Robin Competition, which proved a outstanding success.

1978 saw our clubs first success in acheiving the NBL First Division pennant, in addition to the second division pennant. That performance was repeated the following year in 1979.
