PENNANT FIXTURES FOR round 17 & 18
rickshaw | 21 February, 2009 14:31
The last round of the Batavia Bowling League qualifying games.
Saturday.
Geraldton Gold were too strong for their sister side Geraldton Blue at home defeating that side 5/1.
Wonthella Green showed they are a contender for the finals with their great victory over Geraldton Red 6/0.
Northampton was no match for the mighty Maroons at Northampton 6/0.
Wonthella Gold defeated Denison White at Denison 5/1 to sit just one & half points shy of the four.
Denison Blue defeated Mullewa at Mullewa in both divisions
The results after the 17th qualifying round
1st division, Geraldton Gold 74,
Wonthella Maroon 67.5,
Wonthella Green 67,
Geraldton Red 62.5
Geraldton Blue 62.5,
Wonthella Gold 61,
this was the top six.
So you can see how close the top four positions is after this round.
2nd division.
Wonthella Maroon 51.5,
Geraldton Red 51.5,
Geraldton Gold 44,
Wonthella Green 38,
Denison Blue 34.5
Wonthella Gold 34,
Geraldton Blue 34,
Denison White 28.5,
Northampton 21,
Mullewa 3.
This division is very close also so it all points to a close finish in the final round.
Sunday 15th
It was very disappointing for the Wonthella fans in this round all their 1st division teams were defeated by Geraldton.
Wonthella Maroon were no match for Geraldton Gold on their home patch, going down 5/1 falling to third spot on the premiership ladder.
Geraldton Blue 6/0 defeat of the third place Wonthella Green saw them go straight into second spot on the ladder and a double chance at the big one and Green in Mothballs till next year.
Geraldton Red 5/1 staged a fantastic fight back to claim victory in their game at Geraldton against Wonthella Gold.
Half way through the game it look all over for Geraldton Red, but Red strung together some fantastic ends when it counted booking themself a place in the four.
1st & 2nd semi to be played at the Geraldton bowling club Saturday 21st February at 2 pm.
The final four Wonthella Maroon have to defeat Geraldton Red in a must win 1st semi final this Saturday, or they will be eliminated. Giving away the only chance Wonthella clubs has for a premiership.
Geraldton Gold (favourites) play Geraldton Blue for a berth in the grand final the loser has a second crack in the semi played on Sunday 22nd at 9 am.
2nd division.
Geraldton Gold plays Geraldton Blue in the 1st semi and Wonthella Maroon play Geraldton Red in the second semi.
It seems a consistent trend that the same four sides have ended up in the four in both divisions.

Wonthella Gold with an aggregate of 64/58 and 5 points to one.
2nd division.
This was a complete turn around Denison Blue winning both rinks with some great bowls. It’s a pity they are not further up the ladder otherwise they would be a threat in the finals.

The mighty Maroons accounted for Mullewa at home winning with an aggregate of 75/48 and 6 points.

The only Red team to do any good was Dave McQuade’s team defeating Steve Palmer side 25/15 this was not enough Geraldton Gold winning with an aggregate of 65/58 and 5 points to one.
2nd division.
This was a different story the big win by Peter Harrods’s, red team 24/15 over B Chester’s side decided the outcome. Although G McLeary’s team won quite well 22/15 defeating Les Panting’s side it was not enough, Red winning the aggregate 39/37 and 3 points to one.
Geraldton Blue defeated Northampton, at Geraldton 64/49 and 5 ½ points to a ½ point.

2nd division.
Northampton turned the tables in this division winning a very close game and the aggregate by just one point,
Ernie Thompson Geraldton team won their rink 20/15 from Barry Woiner side, but it was the good win by K Farrell 20/14 over Garry Paynes team deciding the outcome.
Northampton winning 35/34 and 3 points to one.

2nd division.
Denison White put up a hectic battle in this division with a drawn game between Bert Cheisa team and Reg Stribleys Side 17/17 all.
But it was the two point win by Joe Diepeveen side that saved the day for Wonthella defeating B Hahn side 25/23. Wonthella Green winning with an aggregate of 42/40 and 3 ½ points to ½ point.

PENNANT FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY 170109 as sent in by john craig
rickshaw | 21 January, 2009 18:26
The Story After the 14th round of BBL Pennants 17th January.
Geraldton Blue at home to Wonthella Maroon was defeated in 1st division 5 points to one and an aggregate of 64/59 in favour of Wonthella Maroon.
Mike Ford’s team were the only G’ton rink to record a victory winning 25/12 over the Brian Clausen side.
Garry Preston’s Wonthella team had a close call defeating the Jeff Eaton side by just one point 24/23. Charlie Murphy big win over Kevin Robartson’s team 28/11 made sure of the aggregate.
2nd division
A different story Alan Hagg’s team that have only lost one game this year were completely outclassed by the team of Garry Payne, Mike Payne who played brilliantly and Clarrie Giltrow and Clive Cross winning 23/10
Noel Lee’s Maroon team restored some pride by defeating Ernie Thomson’s side 19/15 recording a point for Maroon, which are still on top of the ladder by % only.
Geraldton Red defeated Mullewa at home 6/0 and 83/33
Ian Thomas and his team defeated Murray Watt’s side 32/9. Joe Criddle’s team also recorded a big victory with the 29/10 defeat of John Peet’s side. Lloyd Morgan side went down to Dave McGuade’s team 25/14.
2nd division.
It is great to see Mullewa fielding a very competitive 2nd division side especially travelling away.
Although Mullewa were defeated 49/29 and 4 points to nil it all orger’s well for the future.
Northampton travelled to Denison to record a very good win over the home side Denison White.
